The House of Representatives has decried the continuous attacks by bandits on communities in Kaduna State, urging the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, and the National Emergency Management Agency as well as other relevant agencies to immediately provide relief materials to the affected victims of the ceaseless and violent attacks in Zango Kataf Local Government Area. They also urged the Federal Government to immediately deploy more military personnel and intelligence operatives to assist and complement the operations of the ‘Safe Haven’ task force in Zango Kataf and other LGAs in the southern part of Kaduna State. The House urged the government to establish a military command, battalion and brigade in Zango Kataf. Multiple reports indicate that the Katsina and Daura Emirate Councils in Katsina state have suspended Sallah festivities following a rise in insecurity in the Northern region. In a statement from the Emirates, activities like public display by horse riders (Durbar) at the palace of Abdulmumin Usman, the Emir of Katsina, and Faruk Umar, his counterpart in Daura, would be affected. The Emir urged all Muslim faithful to dedicate the period to pray for the good of Nigeria. “Yes, the Emirate Council has suspended activities concerning Durbar during the Sallah, but his Eminence has implored residents to seize the Sallah period in offering prayers for the state and for Nigeria,” he said. In a statement signed by Abdulmumini Salihu, the Danejin Daura, the Daura emirate council said it has suspended public activities for Sallah.             It was learnt that the Oyo State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality and other related matters has concluded its public sittings on the 163 cases brought. After considering a total of 163 petitions submitted to it by members of the public, the panel said it will begin the process of reviewing each petition through technical meetings and deliberations, which will lead to the final report that will be submitted to the state government for implementation. It was gathered that, President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the 203.8km segment of the Kano-Kaduna rail project in Zawaciki, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano state. The segment starts from Rigasa station (Kaduna) and runs to Kano. The length of the main line is 203.8 kilometres. It connects two important states in the north region namely Kaduna and Kano States.   When the project is completed, it will be connected to the existing Abuja-Kaduna railway line, and it will be possible to travel directly from Kano to Abuja by train. The project adopts China Railway standard, with a designed speed of 150 km/h. It is a single-track standard gauge railway, using diesel traction and automatic blocking system. There are 13 large and medium sized bridges, with a total length of 5.17 km, 17 frame bridges, 60 highway overpasses, 12 pedestrian overpasses, 374 culverts, 3 stations and 3 passing loops in the project.


Senator Ibrahim Danbaba (PDP Sokoto South) has emerged as the new Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate. Danbaba replaced Senator Sahabi Ya’u (Zamfara North), who defected from the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Reports indicate that four inmates of the Maximum Correctional Centre in Jos, Plateau State have escaped from the facility. The correctional centre said to be housing thousands of inmates is located near the State Police Command headquarters in the state capital. It was learnt that the escapees are Fulani bandits arraigned before a Barkin Ladi Court last year.   Mr Geoffrey Longdien, the  spokesman for the correctional centre,  confirmed the incident. He said “Four inmates of the correctional centre escaped at the early hours of Thursday. Investigation is ongoing and we shall brief the press when we finish.” Their names are Umar Adamu, Yusuf Adamu, Musa Abdulkasim, Mohammed Ibrahim, Bashir Mohammed.


The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, inaugurated a new Governing Council for the Lagos State University (LASU). The LASU Governing Council was reconstituted with a veteran accountant, David Olabanji Sunmoni, as the new pro-chancellor and chairman. The selection of Sunmoni came about seven weeks after Governor Sanwo-Olu, who is the Visitor to the institution, dissolved the Prof. Nurudeen Ninalowo-led Governing Council. The Council was dissolved on the recommendation of the Visitation Panel that probed the controversies surrounding the selection of substantive VC for the university. In the wake of another attack by bandits, at least 42 people have been killed in five communities of Faru district in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State. According to an indigene, Malam Buba Faru, the bandits stormed the five communities of Tsauni, Gudan-Baushi, Gidan-Adamu, Wari, and Gudan-Maidawa with over 100 motorcycles. “They were shooting sporadically at people they came across in the five communities. They also attacked farmers who were in their farmlands cultivating their crops”, Faru said. “So far, 42 dead bodies have been recovered by the security and volunteer groups in the area.”


It was gathered that, the Maiduguri Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Thursday arraigned three businessmen Lawan Karta, Aisami Sherif and Babagana Bulama, before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri for the offences bordering on criminal conspiracy, misappropriation, and obtaining money under false pretence.  Karta and Sherif were jointly arraigned on a two-count charge for allegedly selling a purported plot of land to one Mohammed EUmar Bolori in the sum of N10, 000, 000.00 (Ten Million Naira). Investigation revealed that the complainant made a deposit of N5, 000, 000.00 (Five Million Naira) to one of the defendants’ account during his visit to  the land. Afterwards, his attention was drawn to the fact that the plot of land belonged to one Alhaji Abba Kagu Marte and all efforts to retrieve his initial deposit failed. Eagles eye reporter have gathered that students and lecturers of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna, who were abducted one month ago, have regained their freedom. Recalling that on June 10, bandits  invaded the Institution , killed one student, and abducted several others. Although, Eagles eye reporter can not ascertain if a ransom was paid to secure the release of the lecturer and students, but sources say a dialogue was reached with the kidnappers before their liberty. However, there has been a spate in the number of abduction incidents reported in Kaduna State recently. Recall that earlier in the week, bandits invaded the  Baptist Bethel School  in Maraban Rido community, Chikun LGA of Kaduna and abducted not less than 140 students.


Eagles eye reporter have gathered that security operatives stormed an ESN camp at Emekeukwu, Owerri North Council Area of Imo State, arresting two notorious ‘King of Dragon’ members. Report indicate that the police engaged the criminals in a gun battle, with several ESN members sustaining severe injuries in the process while two others were arrested. The suspects are identified as Chibuike Iheukwu, 18, of Inyishi Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, and Jidechi Akakem, 26, from Umuchoke Orji in Owerri North LGA. The Vice-Principal of the Bethel Baptist school, where students were kidnapped on Monday said the bandits rejected nine bags of rice and other food items offered by the school. Wakili Madugu said that the kidnappers stormed the school located in Damishi in Kaduna State and he received a call at 7.30am on Tuesday shortly after the students had been abducted and was assured of their safety. The school official said the abductors had demanded food items with which they would feed the students.  He said, “They said we should bring 10 bags of imported rice, 20 bags of local rice, 20 bags of beans and then 10 cartons of Maggi (seasoning) and then 10 kegs of oil as well as two bags of salt. These were the items they demanded.”


Multiple report indicate that, f our members of the same family died yesterday of food poisoning at the Olori village in Banni community of Kwara State. The incident was confirmed by  Mr. Babawale Afolabi,  the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command. Mr. Babawale Afolabi  said the deceased died as a result of food poisoning around 7 a.m. yesterday. He said: “We received information about the death of two children of Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar of Olori village in Banni community-Umar Mohammed, 25, and Kadir Mohammed, 18. “They started vomiting around 4:00 am on Thursday and were rushed to the General Hospital in Igbeti, Oyo State. “They were tested and confirmed to have taken poisonous food. After few minutes, the two died in the hospital.” He further stated that as the family members were preparing to bury their corpses, one of the grandsons of Abubakar, Umar Mohammed, also died. Following the collapse of a three-storey building partially collapses in Lagos,a 5 year old boy has been confirmed injured while many others got severely injured. The incident occurred at 19, Church Street of Adeniji Adele Street on Lagos Island, Lagos State on Thursday. Other occupants who sustained varying degrees of injury were taken to hospital for treatment. It was learnt  that the building suddenly caved in while some of the occupants, including the deceased child, were asleep. Report indicate that the ex President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, has begun his 15-month jail term for contempt, the country’s Minister of Justice has said. The former President,  who has been in police detention since Wednesday night, turned himself into security operatives to begin his jail term for disobeying a court order to give evidence at an inquiry into corruption while he was in power from 2009 to 2018. The former President will be held in isolation for 14 days in line with COVID-19 protocols, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola said on  Thursday, outside Estcourt Correctional Centre, eastern South Africa, where Zuma was being held. Report indicate that, the Federal Inland Revenue Service has appointed some commercial banks as agents to recover the sum of N1.8 trillion from accounts of Messrs MultiChoice Nigeria Limited (MCN) And MultiChoice Africa (MCA). This was contained in a statement signed by the Executive Chairman, Muhammad Nami.  The statement confirmed that the decision to appoint the banks as agents and to freeze the accounts was as a result of the group’s continued refusal to grant FIRS access to its servers for audit.  It was discovered that the companies persistently breached all agreements and undertakings with the Service, they would not promptly respond to correspondences, they lacked data integrity and are not transparent as they continually deny FIRS access to their records. It was gathered  that security operatives on Wednesday night shot dead four suspects responsible for the assassination of President Jovenel Moise of Haiti. In a statement by Police Chief,  Leon Charles,  the suspected assassins were killed by security operatives in a gun duel while two others were arrested. The First Lady, Martine Moïse, is currently fighting for her life after being shot many times in the attack. Prof. Ndubisi Samuel, t he Director of Scientific Equipment Development Institute, SEDI, Enugu, has been reportedly assassinated along Port Harcourt/Enugu express way. SEDI is a Federal Government institute under the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). The incident is coming barely 48 hours after the Chief Executive Officer, AutoEase, a vehicle body repair firm, Ifeanyi Okeke, was killed about two kilometers from the point of the latest incident. Eagles eye reporter have gathered that two okada riders have been shot dead by gunmen in Abule Ijesha and Yaba College of Technology Bus Stop areas of Lagos State. It was reported that the victims, Sheriff Sulaiman and Sanni Abubakar, were together at the Abule Ijesha Junction waiting for passengers when the assailants shot Sulaiman in the head. The victim, 30, a father of one, died on the spot. An eyewitness say after Suleiman was hit, Abubakar, who witnessed the incident, fled to escape being attacked by the criminals. He was meanwhile trailed down to Yabatech bus stop and shot dead by the armed robbers. The remains of Sulaiman and Abubakar have been transported to their hometowns in Katsina and Jigawa respectively for burial. Confirming the incident in a statement,  Olumuyiwa Adejobi,  the State’s Police PRO, said efforts are ongoing to arrest the killers.
